Visiting restrictions at Hereford Hospitals have been lifted following the reopening of two wards. The restrictions had been put in place following an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting.

A & E attendances peak due to severe weather conditions - Monday, January 11, 2010

Hereford Hospitals A & E Department has seen a dramatic rise in attendances due to the severe weather conditions and a busy festive season. With A & E attendances sustained over the Christmas and New Year season peaking at 163 patients. Our average daily attendance is approximately 120. Over the New Year we saw an increase in the number of alcohol related injuries mainly New Years Eve compared to last year.

Statement from Chief Exec:

"Hereford Hospital NHSTrust considers the prevention of infection to be a top priority. This commitment is reflected in the Trust’s early introduction of MRSA screening of emergency and elective surgical inpatient admissions in October 2007. MRSA screening allows targeted prevention and treatment measures for the patient and implementation of optimum infection prevention in the Trust. From March 2009, this programme of MRSA screening will be extended to include relevant day case attenders. The Trust has established a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure that all patients are screened for MRSA".
